When therapy is NOT CONFIDENTIAL

In general, information shared in session is confidential.  However, there are some instances whereby I am legally required to disclose information from the session. These instances are:

  1.  When there is reasonable suspicion of child abuse, elder abuse, or dependent adult abuse.
  2.  Where the client threatens violence to an identifiable victim.
  3.  When the client presents a danger to harm himself or herself, unless protective measures are taken.

LENGTH OF TIME OF TREATMENT

Most individuals come to therapy once a week for a 50-60 minute session.  In some instances, it may be more effective to meet more intensively at the onset of therapy, possibly up to 2 times per week. The length of time in treatment varies according to the severity of the presenting problems and the particular goals the client wants to attain. This will be discussed during your initial visit.

WHEN MEDICATION ALONE IS NOT ENOUGH

Medication can be effective, however, at times it cannot solve all your issues. Counseling  in conjunction with medication can be a more efficacious alternative. I will provide you with referrals to a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse  when  requested.
